IAD assists community development for Aboriginal people and provide cross-cultural education between Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal society.

IAD is an independent Aboriginal community controlled language resource centre and adult education centre serving the Aboriginal community of Central Australia. They are the oldest independent Aboriginal adult education institution in Central Australia.

The Aboriginal Cultural Awareness Program (ACAP) is an opportunity for staff, students and the general public to learn more about Aboriginal cultures and lifestyles.

ACAP’s aims are to:

  • Share Aboriginal culture with non-Aboriginal people in order to generally improve relationships in Australian society
  • Develop a better understanding and awareness of Aboriginal people and their cultures
  • Recognise the unique needs and aspirations of Aboriginal people
  • Improve the working relationships between the non-Aboriginal service providers and Aboriginal staff and clientele.
